Starting your day on a protein-filled note is counted as a good practice for a sustainable weight loss journey. A lot of us are guilty for skipping breakfast at some point in life, now you may have your reasons to do so, but just make sure you do not make that your habit. Breakfast is the first meal you have in the day after your previous day’s dinner and eight hours of sleep. It is crucial to kick-start your metabolism. Skipping breakfast can also prove detrimental to your energy levels. Also, if you are hungry for a long time after waking up, you are more likely to grab a heavy and greasy lunch/brunch, which could upset your recommended calorie-count for the day.
It is also a good idea to plan your breakfast in advance; this way you are not scouting for ingredients in the last and making anything fried and easy. Make sure you add enough protein to your breakfast. Protein helps induce the feeling of satiety. If you feel full, you are less likely to binge on something fattening or calorie-laden later in the day. Protein also helps regulate hunger hormone ghrelin, which helps check cravings. Some of the best protein-rich breakfasts are: poached eggs, oats, and cereals. If you are looking for something desi, we have something for you too.

Most of us often associate Indian food with all things spicy, oily and full of calories. But the perception is a tad unfair. Indian cuisine has a wealth of healthy offerings too. For instance, chilla – the Indian pancake – is often made of besan or moong dal and a host of herbs. Here’s a recipe of paneer and besan ka chila that is sure to make you drool and help you burn some calories.
Here’s Why This Chila Works For Weight Loss
If cooked in less oil, this chilla is a powerhouse. of protein. Besan is a good source of protein. Cottage cheese is an excellent plant-based source of protein too. Cottage cheese is also enriched with calcium that also helps aid metabolism and promote fat loss. The healthy and yummy dish also packs the goodness of tomato, green chillies, ajwain and coriander leaves – all of which come loaded with their range of healthy minerals and nutrients that make it a sound bet for weight loss and good health.
So, don your aprons and start cooking. Got anymore recipes to share with us, do write to us in the comments section below.

Where to eat in Hong Kong this February

Where to eat in Hong Kong this February Feb 13, 2019
From the new hot spots on everyone’s mouth, to our go-to favourites, we put together a selection of eateries to try this month, whether you’re looking for a place to celebrate a special occasion or a trendy spot for a causal dinner. Maze Grill
The first thing that you’ll notice at celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey’s Maze Grill are the floor-to-ceiling windows that encircle the interior dining area. Situated at the far end of Harbour City, it’s quite a trek to get to, but the panoramic views of Hong Kong Island are worth it (and if you’re lucky a picturesque golden sunset).
The food is modern British comfort and executed with care by chef John Newsom, formerly with Meats. Particularly good are the beef wellington which uses a tender fillet wrapped and baked in a flaky crust. I’m not a huge fan of desserts, but I had to try the famed sticky toffee pudding. It did not disappoint. If you’re in the area, defiantly check it out.
Maze Grill, Harbour City, Shop OTE401, Level 4 Ocean Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong, +852 2765 0890, diningconcepts.com FoFo by el Willy
FoFo by el Willy is serving up what is claimed to be the world best steak. Supplied by famed Spanish Chef farm on the José Gordon of El Capricho from his small-scale Iberian cost of Spain, the steak definitely lives up to the hype. To fully enjoy this, you’ll want to try everything (including the fat). Each bite is nutty and creamy and the meat is tender, and has a nice bite without being overly soft.
The unique thing about José Gordon’s cows is that it takes him up to 15 years to raise an animal, a stark contrast to the 15 or so months that it usually takes. In addition, each bull is aged different times depending on the animal. Why? José put’s it simply, ‘each animal is an individual. You must treat them well and with respect…Give them good things to eat and a good environment to live in.’ Does this care for his livestock and devotion to his animals’ happiness translate into great steak? Definitely.

You might be confused when you first try to find Shé. The entrance to the restaurant is actually located within Lane Crawford’s IFC store. When you get in though, you’ll be greeted with stunning views of the Kowloon skyline and elegant subdued décor.
The food is spectacular. With elevated Hong Kong classics like a delicate rose gold har gow (shrimp & pork dumpling) to fried prawns coated in a batter of rich duck egg, to char siu and a luxurious take on the humble yuk bag (steamed pork mince), Shé is able to take Hong Kong and Cantonese cuisine and elevate it in a charming atmosphere perfect for a relaxing night out.
Shé, Level 3, ifc mall, 8 Finance St, Central, Hong Kong, +852 2110 0153, ifc.com Tokyolima
Tokyolima is legit. It’s a chill spot in Central that since its opening a couple of years ago, has been consistently improving and reinventing its offering, which consists of Japanese Peruvian izakaya style dishes. We always come back because it’s the perfect ambiance for a group of friends, a birthday dinner, or to pre-game before hitting up LKF. Their food is no-frills, their portions are quite generous and service is great – I’m always left completely satisfied.
Here are our recommendations from the new winter menu: The Miso & Quinoa Salad, Hotate Maki, and Salmon with yellow chilli & miso glaze. It’s hard to find Quinoa done well in Hong Kong, but this place does it justice. From their permanent menu, their “Ki-mo-chi” Fried Chicken and Pollo a la Brasa are the moves to make. And for drinks, opt in for an Inca Sour or a Mitsuko.
Tokyolima, Car Po Commercial Building, G/F, 18-20 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central, Hong Kong, +852 2811 1152, tokyolima.hk New Punjab Club
Legit Punjabi food is a rare find in Hong Kong and a Michelin star for the cuisine is even harder to come by. New Punjab Club can confidently claim stake to both and it doesn’t disappoint.
The recently starred restaurant (it was awarded its first Michelin Star in December ) serves up an offering of tandoori grills and rib-sticking dishes hearty enough to even though who don’t usually enjoy Indian food smacking their lips with delight. Our must eat recommendation is the Keema Pau, a traditional Punjabi appetiser of spiced mutton cooked into a thick meat sauce served with milk buns toasted with a crunch on the outside and delightfully airy on the inside – meaning more meat and less carbs in every bite. Make sure to reserve two weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
New Punjab Club, 34 Wyndham St, Central, Hong Kong , +852 2368 1223, newpunjabclub.com Uma Nota
In January, Uma Nota presented the limited-edition menu Mutsuki with Uma Nota, which featured a delicious selection of Japanese dishes infused with a little touch of Brazilian flair. Highlights included the incredibly moist and flavourful black cod skewers with Saikyo miso and ginger.
While most of the dishes in the special menu won’t be available throughout February, go back to Uma Nota (if you’ve already been) for a trendy dinner that never disappoints or try it for the first time (Really? And you call yourself a foodie?) if you still haven’t. Most of the dishes fuse the best of Japanese sophisticated and delicate flavours with the colours and spices of Brazil, a true culinary gem that doesn’t get enough attention in Hong Kong.

Treat Your Parents To The Best Trip Ever At These 10 Muslim-Friendly Destinations

Credit: Giphy
If you’re racking your brains and trying to recall the last time you treated your parents to a nice vacation, it’s high time that you start planning a trip to repay them for all their years of hard work bringing you up 🤗
And if you’re unsure which destination is best for both you and your parents to enjoy, we’ve specially curated this list because we know how hard it is to choose the ideal vacation spot that’ll suit all your needs. Our list has a mix of vibrant cities, nature destinations, cultural gems and relaxing beach vacations – perfect for any occasion.
But first, before you plan your trip, here are some things to take note: Manage your expectations – you won’t be able to cover everything that you set out to do and that’s okay! Don’t cram your itinerary- take it easy and keep your schedule loose so that you can easily tweak it when needed Plan rest times when appropriate Be patient – if our parents could be patient with us when we took our very first steps as a toddler, surely we can do the same now that they are older! The bottom line is – KEEP IT SIMPLE 😊
With that, here are our top picks of 10 incredible and Muslim-friendly destinations to treat your parents! 1. Jeju, South Korea
Unlike South Korea’s capital city, Seoul, Jeju is a world away and the perfect place to unwind. Having been to Jeju several times, I can definitely say that a trip here is healing and it rejuvenates your senses. It’s a mix of breathtaking mountains, greenery and the sea 😍
One of my favourite sights has got to be Seopjikoji. This picturesque cliff became a popular tourist spot after the hit Korean drama, All In in 2003. Admiring the scenic sea views here and listening to the sound of waves crashing is probably the most therapeutic way to chill out. Jeju’s stunning beaches like Woljeong-ri and Hyeopjae are also perfect to soak in the island’s laidback vibes.
Jeju is great to visit all year round but we recommend heading in spring or summer to catch its gorgeous canola blooms or hydrangeas. If you’re planning some light activities, try strawberry-picking or visit O’Sulloc’s tea plantation.
The best way to get around Jeju is by renting a car and driving. That’s great because you are in charge of your own schedule and driving gives you a lot of time in between destinations for your parents to rest and recharge. Check out our 5D4N Muslim-friendly Jeju itinerary to start planning your trip 😉 2. Hong Kong
I know, Hong Kong might sound a little too hectic to navigate with your parents but take it from me, I travelled to Hong Kong with my parents and we really enjoyed ourselves! While we’d normally think that our parents prefer going on tours, a small part of them wants to go through the adventure of exploring a city. After all, they were the ones who instilled that sense of adventure in us, right?
With an efficient public transport system, it’s easy to get around Hong Kong whether you’re visiting top spots like The Peak, Victoria Harbour and Ngong Ping 360 or doing some shopping at Ladies Market.
There’s also plenty of halal food options in Hong Kong, be it authentic dim sum, Indian cuisine or Indonesian food. One of the things I learnt from the trip is that it helps to pick accommodation near halal food! My parents and I stayed right in front of the Ammar Mosque which houses the Islamic Centre Canteen. It’s just a short walk from Causeway Bay too where you can find Wai Kee’s halal roast duck and yummy Indonesian food.
One of the things that I really enjoyed during the trip was capturing loving moments of my parents which is really heartwarming ☺️
If you need some help planning your Hong Kong trip, then our 6D5N Muslim-friendly itinerary would be just what you need! But of course, to help you better immerse yourselves in the local culture, don’t forget to learn some simple Cantonese phrases too. 3. Bangkok, Thailand
Yet another bustling city but you have to admit that Bangkok is one of those places you can go over and over again but not get bored of it. With so much shopping and halal food options, there’s definitely something for everyone, young and old. I travelled to Bangkok with my mom alone and it was quite an experience ☺️
What’s a trip to Bangkok without some shopping? Top shopping spots like Chatuchak, Pratunam and Siam all have shops catering to different age groups. If you’re heading to Chatuchak with your parents, the tip is to arrive early so you don’t have to brave the scorching heat and insane crowd! But it might just be hard to drag them away as there’s just so much to buy 😅 Even if you don’t head to Chatuchak, malls are perfect alternatives too – my mom and I really loved Terminal 21’s themed floors.
Bangkok is also great because of its food. Your parents will definitely love the wide variety of halal Thai cuisine available. What’s also great is the many options for you to rest in between places. Need a break? Just pop into one of the massage parlours and refresh yourself!
While my mom and I got around by public transport, at other times, it was more convenient to book a Grab or hail a taxi, so we could conserve our energy for more shopping 😜 And prices were really affordable too.
#HHWT Tip: Plan your Bangkok trip with our 4D3N Muslim-friendly itinerary ! 4. Cape Town, South Africa
South Africa is one of those places that a lot of people dream of going! And Cape Town is a great place to start because it has a good mix of everything – breathtaking mountain views, beaches, vibrant local culture and more.
Credit: @leonesteenkamp on Instagram
For a stunning bird’s eye view of the city, Table Mountain is the place to go. Enjoy the scenic panorama and take in the refreshing air here. And don’t worry, you don’t need to climb all the way up the mountain! The aerial cableway is a great and comfortable way of getting up the mountain 🤗
Did you know that Cape Town is also home to a sizeable population of Cape Malays? This community was formed when South Africa was a Dutch colony and they brought Malays over from Dutch Malacca and Indonesia. Today, you can mingle with this vibrant Muslim community at Bo Kaap, which is also known for its brightly-coloured houses. Treat your parents to a good meal at one of the many halal restaurants here!
#HHWT Tip: For an easier way to travel around Cape Town, we’d recommend renting a car or hiring a driver. Find out more about car rentals and other tips with our first-timer’s guide to South Africa ! 5. Tokyo & Mt Fuji/Hakone, Japan
Tokyo might not be the first place that comes to mind when bringing your parents on a trip but the city makes for a good base to explore some of Japan’s most magnificent nature spots. There are many fuss-free tours which you can take to the city’s outskirts too, so it’s ideal for you and your parents.
P.S. Check out our 6D5N Muslim-friendly itinerary to explore Tokyo and its surrounds!
For starters, you can spend a day or two immersing yourselves in Japanese culture at Tokyo’s Asakusa or Meiji Jingu Shrine and visiting top spots like Shibuya Crossing and Tokyo Skytree. Then, wind down at one of its many parks – Shinjuku Gyoen or Yoyogi Park. The many halal Japanese food options in Tokyo are also bound to surprise you and your parents – from ramen to Japanese curry, yakiniku and more!
#HHWT Tip: Just take note that the transit system in Tokyo can be a tad confusing and it might require a lot of transfers between train lines. Do plan extra time for travelling and download apps like Hyperdia, Google Maps, Navitime and Tokyo Subway Navigation to help you plan your route.
One of the day trips we’d recommend is Mt Fuji and Hakone – which are just 2 hours away from Tokyo. Getting close to Japan’s tallest mountain will surely be a wonderful experience for you to enjoy with your parents 😍 With a trip booked on Klook , you’ll not only get an unobstructed view of Mt Fuji at the Subaru 5th station, but you’ll also visit Lake Kawaguchi. The tour also brings you to the hot spring resort town of Hakone. Needless to say, your parents will love this short escape from the city! 6. Krabi, Thailand
There’s nothing more relaxing than the sun, sand and sea. If you’re looking for a short but pampering retreat for your parents, then Krabi is the place to go! With easy access to halal food, amazing beaches and tranquil islands, Krabi ticks all the boxes for an awesome trip with your parents.
Credit: Railay Bay Resort & Spa on Facebook
Krabi’s many Muslim-friendly resorts will make you feel right at home and some of them are equipped with private pools and relaxing hammocks! Sometimes, quality time with your family just means lazing around in an awesome villa and catching up with each other 😜
But of course, you won’t just be lazing around while you’re in Krabi. There are many tours which will bring you to other islands around Krabi. One of the must-see islands is Koh Phi Phi which is known for its gorgeous bays, emerald waters and limestone formations 😍 Many speedboat tours will give you the option to jump into the clear waters for some swimming or snorkelling, but your parents can stay in the boat if they don’t wish to get themselves wet.
#HHWT Tip: Need a ride around Krabi? We’d recommend getting a private driver for a convenient ride! 7. Melbourne, Australia
Australia is always a good idea for a family vacay! I’m sure we all have that one parent who doesn’t mind going to Australia for repeat trips 😂 Melbourne fits the bill because of its charming mix of lush green parks, vintage markets, artsy laneways and more. There’s something for everyone here!
#HHWT Tip: Here are 8 attractions near halal food in Melbourne you absolutely can’t miss!
Take a stroll along the Yarra River or clear your mind at the Royal Botanic Gardens. And then shop for knick-knacks and unique souvenirs at Queen Victoria Market. Alternatively, you can take instagrammable pictures of your parents at Melbourne’s artsy laneways. Feeling a little weary? Then refuel at one of the city’s many quaint and Muslim-friendly cafes !
If you still need some convincing, then you must know that Melbourne is the gateway to the Great Ocean Road! Spanning more than 240km, this is known as one of the world’s most scenic drives and an experience not to be missed 😍 Be sure to check out our Muslim-friendly guide to the Great Ocean Road for the best sights and tips.
P.S. Plan your Melbourne trip with our 6D5N Muslim-friendly itinerary for the perfect vacay! 8. Queenstown, New Zealand
While the whole of New Zealand is worth visiting, one of the places with an absolutely mesmerising scenery and a range of activities is Queenstown on the South Island! The town is mostly known for extreme sports like skydiving and bungee jumping, but it also has more relaxing activities for families and older travellers.
Credit: Miles Holden
Soak in the beauty of Lake Wakatipu and feast your eyes on its majestic backdrop of mountains called The Remarkables. While you’re here, you can choose to simply take a stroll or go on a leisure bike ride. For a 360-degree aerial view of the lake and the Queenstown area, take the Skyline Gondola all the way up to Bob’s Peak. The stunning view is definitely one to keep for the books!
Credit: Rob Suisted
About 3 hours away from Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s most spectacular natural sights, the Milford Sound ☺️ This beautiful fjord was once carved out by glaciers during the ice ages and you can now admire it in all its glory!
#HHWT Tip: Heading to other parts of New Zealand too? Then read our Muslim-friendly itinerary to conquering NZ’s south island! 9. Istanbul, Turkey
Home to a piece of ancient history and architecture, Istanbul is the perfect blend of East and West. This Turkish city located on the crossroads between Europe and Asia also has many important Islamic sights, making it perfect for a trip to treat your parents.
#HHWT Tip: Need some budget options for Istanbul? These free things to do will keep you covered!

Hagia Sophia is definitely an unmissable landmark when you’re in Istanbul. Built in the 6th century, this building was once a church during the Byzantine, Roman and Greek Empires before it was converted into a mosque by the Ottoman rulers. Now a museum, you can spot a mix of Christian and Islamic architecture. It’s amazing how these elements have stood the test of time 😍
Just across the Hagia Sophia is the stunning Sultanahmet Mosque, also known as the Blue Mosque. Stepping into the prayer hall of the mosque, you’d be able to admire its impressive Turkish designs and Quranic inscriptions. Praying here will definitely be an experience unlike any other!
Besides these 2 stunning landmarks, you’ll also be able to go shopping at one of Istanbul’s colourful markets, the Grand Bazaar. Experience the hustle and bustle of the market, mingle with some locals or grab a Turkish delight and tea. For first-timers to Istanbul, we’ve got a complete guide on everything you need to see, eat and do 😉
P.S. Travelling the whole of Turkey? You’d definitely need our 6D5N itinerary to explore Turkey’s best sights ! 10. Langkawi, Malaysia
Powdery white sand, swaying coconut trees and crystal clear waters – it could only be Langkawi! This incredible Malaysian island located in the Andaman Sea has always been a popular retreat destination for locals and your parents will get a well-deserved break here 😉
Credit: The Andaman on Facebook
Book a room at one of Langkawi’s exclusive resorts for utmost privacy and quality time with your folks! Some resorts like The Andaman is nestled in the lush greenery of the tropical rainforest and is a perfect respite from your busy schedules. Some also have spa packages so you and your parents can enjoy a pampering session! Our full list of resorts in Langkawi will ensure you have the perfect stay.

Should you want to get out of your room (it might be hard to 😝) and explore Langkawi, make sure you take a ride on the Langkawi SkyCab (cable car) which will bring you all the way up to the peak of Gunung Machinchang. Here’s where you can walk on the iconic Langkawi Sky Bridge and catch awesome views of the mountains and the sea 🙆‍♂️ BONUS: Hajj/Umrah There’s nothing more fulfilling and meaningful than going on a spiritual journey with your parents, and doing your Hajj or Umrah with your parents will be an unforgettable experience. Many of you have also told us that someday, you aspire to bring your parents on this once-in-a-lifetime trip too ❤️ Standing shoulder to shoulder in prayer with your mom or dad at the Masjid Al-Haram or being fascinated together as you explore the Prophet’s mosque is definitely a different way of spending quality time with your parents. You’re bound to learn new things about your parents or even forge closer ties with them – and that’s what makes it all worth it 🙂 We hope our list has inspired you to take your parents on a trip they’ll cherish forever. It might be tough to plan and coordinate your trip. You will be tested again and again, and you’ll be reminded to keep being patient. But trust me, it will all be worth it when you see the smile on your parents’ faces. And when they thank you for a trip well planned, there’s no greater feeling than that ❤️

First-Generation Alumna Brings Hawaiian Poke to Virginia

First-Generation Alumna Brings Hawaiian Poke to Virginia February 11, 2019 Whitelaw Reid ,
Some of Phung Huynh’s fondest childhood memories involve peeling shrimp, chopping meat, washing vegetables and cooking rice.
The reason she looks back so fondly on those activities is because she did them with her mother, Nu Ly.
“She always loved to cook,” Huynh said, “and really enjoyed it when other people enjoyed her food.”
Huynh’s mother had learned from her own mother in Vietnam. One of Huynh’s mother’s dreams had been for her daughter to open her own restaurant.
Sadly, Huynh’s mother died from lung cancer in 2007.
Today, she would be beaming with pride.
Hyunh, a 2004 alumna Virginia’s McIntire School of Commerce, and her husband Bo Zhu have owned and operated a number of successful restaurants over the last decade. They include East Garden, a Chinese buffet in the Pantops area; and Got Dumplings, which began as a food truck and now has a bricks-and-mortar location on the Corner.
The couple’s latest endeavor is Poke Sushi Bowl, a restaurant offering Hawaiian-inspired cuisine that already has six locations throughout the state, including two in Charlottesville – one on the Corner, and another in the Barracks Road Shopping Center.
Huynh’s grandparents on both sides lived in China before the Communist regime led them to immigrate to Vietnam.
After the Vietnam War, Huynh’s parents moved the family to the United States, settling briefly in Charlottesville with another family member who had immigrated here, before deciding to move to Santa Barbara, California.
There, Huynh’s dad worked odd jobs, while her mother sewed dresses at a textile factory. Huynh said the family lived in a tiny one-room abode, in which they had to rent out a bed to a non-family member in order to make ends meet.
During Huynh’s freshman year of high school, the family decided to move back to Charlottesville.
The family briefly owned a Vietnamese restaurant called Crystals (the space now occupied by Indian restaurant Milan) before having to sell it when Huynh’s mom was diagnosed with cancer.
“She never smoked,” Huynh said, “so we believed it was related to working in textiles because when we were in California and my mom would blow her nose, [the mucus] would always be the color of whatever clothes she was sewing.”
While an Albemarle High School student, Huynh began working at a Chinese restaurant to save money for college. There, she continued learning about the restaurant business – and met Bo.
Subsequently, Huynh earned admission to UVA, becoming the first member of her family to attend college.
Taking an economics class during her first year at the University made Huynh realize that she loved working with money and numbers, and she successfully applied to transfer into McIntire.
Huynh said she loved the intimate nature of the Commerce School classes.
“Having to present, talk in front of class and give PowerPoints – McIntire definitely helped me become more of a ‘people person,’” Huynh said. “It really helped me become more comfortable around people.
“I learned teamwork and to be able to have trust and delegate work. I learned you can’t do everything yourself and you need a lot of communication, organization and planning to be successful. It was a great experience.”
After varying degrees of success opening Chinese restaurants in Michigan and New Mexico, Huynh and Zhu returned to Charlottesville and opened East Garden in 2006. “There were lines out the door during lunch,” Huynh said. “It was always busy. It felt great because we really put our heart into making sure things went right.”
Eventually, though, Huynh and Zhu – longing for a simpler, less labor-intensive operation – sold the restaurant.
In 2011, they came up with the idea for Got Dumplings when Aramark, UVA’s food service provider, was looking for new on-Grounds options for students while the cafeteria in Newcomb Hall underwent renovation.
Huynh’s mother was the inspiration for the menu items, which are made from scratch.
Huynh said the biggest compliment she can receive is when UVA students tell her that her food reminds them of home. On one occasion, she had just closed down the food truck when a student came up to her and gave her a huge hug. “It’s rewarding to know that students can taste the traditional ingredients we use and compare it to home-cooked meals,” she said. uc162_1617_rotunda_c.jpg
Huynh got the idea to open a Poke restaurant during a 2016 trip to California when she saw how popular the cuisine was. “People really love the trend of eating healthy and eating simple,” she said. “We were like, ‘This would be great for the Charlottesville community.’”
At Poke (pronounced “po-kay” by Hawaiians and “po-key” by most others in the United States), diners – much like they would do at a Chipotle or a Subway – can customize their meal.
Diners choose a “base” – rice, greens or noodles. Next, they add a protein – sushi-grade tuna, yellowtail, shrimp, crabmeat or chicken. Then comes the “mix-ins” – which include things like cucumber, edamame, mango, tofu, seaweed and pineapple. Everything is then topped with a selected sauce, as well as a choice of gluten-free ingredients, such as ginger, sesame seeds and avocado.
“We have customers who come in and say, ‘My doctors prescribed me poke,’” Huynh said. “When you eat raw fish, you don’t have the oils and all that.”
After the first location on 14 th Street was successful, Huynh and Zhu opened the larger Barracks Road location – which also features made-from-scratch soups with various noodle options – to accommodate more diners.
“It’s all a learning process – every step,” Zhu said. “It’s about location, it’s about the market and then it’s about the product. You can’t go wrong with any one step. Unfortunately, that’s the restaurant industry. It’s tough.”
Interestingly, Huynh’s mother never followed any recipes. She created her dishes based on feel. Nevertheless, Huynh said people who have tried both her and her mom’s cooking say they can’t tell the difference.
Aside from cooking, Huynh said her mother had a huge influence on her and her siblings.
“She was just a very hard worker and very giving,” she said. “She made us become who we are.”
One of Huynh’s favorite things is making many of the same dishes for her three kids that her mom made for her.
“Their first question when they get home,” she said, with a laugh, “is ‘what’s for dinner?’” Media Contact University News Associate Office of University Communications 434-924-7499

It’s pretty easy to marinate several chicken breasts in yogurt, lemon, etc and grill them (or broil if you don’t have a grill) for the week so you have several meal bases ready to go.

This trip is about looking beyond Agra’s conflation with that world-famous symbol of love.

Day 1 AGRA ♥️Every transport reaches there but it’s best to travel in train, which we boarded from Delhi. AC Shatabdi express leave both from New Delhi and Nizamuddin stations at 6a.m. reaching at 8:40a.m., saving the whole day for sight seeing. Though, there is Agra Kheria airport, 7km from the city centre, as well as bus transport at Agra fort bus station, from where you can get taxi, autorickhsaw or cycle rickshaw, costing you between 20 to 200 bucks as your tour requires. From railway station we took a prepaid taxi paying Rs.120 in advance to take us to Hotel Mughal Sheraton. It was a breezy experience with picturesque views of nature in the way from Cannt to Mughal Sheraton. It was a red brick luxury hotel amid serene gardens and elegant interiors. We had booked two rooms as my family consisted of four people. The rooms available were small as well huge, we preferred small and cozy, which had a swimming pool outside the room itself. The bath was exquisite experience with Jacuzzi attached in bathroom. The other activities included were games like tennis, badminton or mini-golf while for kids there was a puppet show to enjoy. It was afternoon and lunch was on our heads. For eating and drinking there are many places nearby if you don’t want to have it in your stay hotel. Dasaprakasha, for south Indian lovers is a must place to eat. ‘Only restaurant’ on the mall road has all type of cuisine with lively music. ‘Park’ in Sadar Bazaar is a great place for family to enjoy food. Kwality and Pinch of Spice are restaurants of taste and pricey grub. Though, there are many cafés and small eat aways too, including contemperory fast food centres like Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Mc donalds, Costa Coffee, Café Coffee Day. We chose restaurant Park which serves Indian, continental and Chinese food. We had a great time jumping on food, as we were hungry. My brother particularly liked the Chinese cuisine there. Moving next, we had the whole evening to spend and heading to Taj Mahal was a romanticized idea. Taj Mahal, the beautiful monument made by a mughal emperor Shahjahan in 1631 for his beloved wife Mumtaz mahal, for he couldn’t bear her death. It was a whole white marble building with a watercourse running through gardens in front imaging it’s reflection. A beautiful work of craft and inlays could be seen with carvings of hands by workers of that time. There was a reason why it is the 7th wonder of the world. But it is more beautiful to watch in moonlight which is restricted to 5 days in a month allowing only 400 people in groups to see It was a stunning experience but we were very tired for any more sight seeing and went back to our hotel. Ah! after such a magical sightseeing, dinner with sombre music was a heart felt desire. The evening was made special by a saxophone player in the garden from where we proceeded to the buffet hall. It had multi-cuisine with desserts and cakes at the end. Starters included soups of two kinds. Then in dinner, it had Italian as well as Indian on platters. A good night sleep was must for a good morning wake up. Someone advised us to have a ramble at Taj Nature Walk in the early morning. It was a fine morning and Taj Nature Walk was a stone throwaway to amble among birds and butterflies with the view of Taj ahead. Trees surrounding the area made it a perfect walk. After returning and getting ready, we went to Jama Masjid, a fine mosque built by Shahjahan’s daughter that has a striking marble patterning on its dome. But the congested streets in hot summer made it a difficult walk. It was time for the most favoured activity by women that is shopping. Sadar bazaar is an ideal place for shopping but here you will find expensive marble stone and inlay works. So one has to be careful while purchasing. There are sprawling shops of gemstones to big emporiums. If you can’t afford here you can visit old town area. Kinari bazaar has a mad traffic but it sells everything from textiles to fruits.
