KANCHA ILAIAH SHEPHERD: RSS’ vegetarian army, in times of conflict with Pakistan and China

Thursday, March 7, 2019 KANCHA ILAIAH SHEPHERD: RSS’ vegetarian army, in times of conflict with Pakistan and China Which army is currently protecting India’s borders – the vegetarian RSS army or the multi-cuisine, multicultural Indian army? And who can do a better job? India has two armies, as I see it. One, the regular force which protects the country’s borders and pitches in when there is a natural disaster or internal conflict. The other is the army of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The state-recruited army is trained in a way that it is mindful of multiculturalism. In terms of physical preparedness, it follows global standards. It stands for the whole nation – not one section of the country. Its diet, as apt for an army anywhere, consists of meat, fish and vegetables, based on the weather conditions in which the battalion is serving. This army is trained to face the Chinese and the Pakistan military forces in very difficult terrains where chilling cold, high altitude, snowfall, heavy rains and rapid river flows are normal. Hundreds of army men have died on the India-Pakistan border guarding India. The religion, food habits and cultural practices of the people the army is protecting do not matter because the institution is apolitical. Who remains in power doesn’t matter to the institution as long as the person or party gets power following the people’s mandate. Express editorial: It will hurt democracy if Balakot leaves behind only the patriotism test // Nationalism Is Being Used To Divide People: Pratap Bhanu Mehta The other army operational in the country is recruited by the ‘sarsanghchalak’ (head of the RSS) and his team. The men trained by the RSS are then deputed to the various wings of the outfit. This army follows the Hindutva ideology and is meant to protect Hindus and the Varna system – Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras, Chadals and Vanavas. This army recruits men with a strict condition – that they would follow vegetarianism and worship cows, no matter whether the local culture prescribes it or not. Those who join this army must believe that all beef-eaters should be treated as ‘non-Indian’. No Muslim, no Christian, unless one gives up that religion, is eligible to join this army. It admits Jains and Buddhists if they adhere to the Hindutva ideology. Amit Shah is one such representative, now heading the BJP, the political wing of the RSS. He has reportedly at times supported those who have called for beef-eaters to be sent to Pakistan. This RSS army’s chief, Mohan Bhagwat once said : “Preparing an Army takes six to seven months but we (RSS cadres) will be battle ready in two-three days… this is our capability and discipline that marks us apart.”.. read more: https://www.dailyo.in/variety/rss-rashtriya-swayamsevak-sangh-beef-ban-indian-army-vegetarianism-abhinandan-varthman-indian-air-force-beef-politics/story/1/29789.html see also

I know guy at work who makes a lot of eastern food, mostly curry. He’s pretty good. I’ve tasted some of his food and it’s really very tasty. On one occasion he made naan bread and that was incredible. He really knows his spices, and he’s just some dude from Manchester in the UK. The guy really has a grasp of Indian cuisine. Anyway, this is what I imagine his spice rack looks like.

The growing craze of the Japanese cuisine in India has led to growth in Japanese exports to us by 40 percent in 2018 reports IANS. The country is also planning to increase the exports of the agricultural products and food in India. This is currently being discussed with the Indian government authorities like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) , Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoAFW) and Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). Love For Sushi
“Last year, Japan reached an agreement with India on the sanitary certificate of fishery products exported from Japan to India,” Kenji Hiramatsu, ambassador of Japan told IANS. “Following this, in 2018, the export of Japanese food from Japan to India increased to about 1.3 billion Japanese yen (about Rs 833 million), which translates to a more than 40 per cent increase compared to 900 million Japanese yen (about Rs 580 million) in 2016. With FSSAI , we signed an MoU on food safety last October at the annual summit meeting, and are currently in discussions on improving the management system of food imports to India. With MoAFW, we are having discussions on exporting Japanese apples and pears to India,” he added.
Talking about the importance of ingredients exported from Japan, Hiramatsu said that “the availability of Japanese ingredients and drinks from Japan are essential. Therefore, in order to promote Japanese food in India, at the same time, we also need to work on the establishment of an ecosystem where Indian outlets can have easy access to Japanese ingredients and drinks. I will keep working on this important task furthermore.”

Fatt Pundit Brings Indo Chinese Food to Soho

March 6, 2019 2 m read A new kind of food is arriving in Soho on Monday, 11th March, with the opening of Fatt Pundit (77 Berwick Street) and its Indo Chinese menu. Originating from Kolkata, Indo Chinese was invented when the Hakka people migrated to India from the Chinese province of Canton, bringing with them their culinary treasures. Incorporating traditional Chinese cooking techniques with the vibrant spices of India to create something both new yet familiar, Indo Chinese is now an integral part of Indian cuisine but yet to be explored in the UK. Playfully named Fatt Pundit it’s a combination of the common Chinese surname ‘Fatt’ with the Indian word ‘Pundit’ (a scholar). The hero dish at Fatt Pundit will be Momos; spicy dumplings originating from Tibet which have been given the Fatt Pundit hallmark thanks to never seen before meat and veggie fillings complete with lip smacking chutneys. Available to order from the menu, there will also be a momo station at the front of the restaurant which means you can get your Indo Chinese hit at any time of day. An extensive menu jam packed with exciting new flavour combinations perfectly unites the flavours of India and China. Signature dishes include Shredded Chilli Venison, Smoked Rabbit Wontons, Hakka Paneer Lettuce Cups and Stir Fry Cod & Bream Curry all of which can be enjoyed with Fatt Pundit’s must–try Indo Chinese sauces such as Manchurian and Bombay Chilli. And Indo Chinese also means cocktails! At Fatt Pundit they’ve got plenty to keep you refreshed and sizzled throughout your visit. Inspired by Indian fruit vendors and stamped with a Chinese twist, here the alchemies have flavour ranges from raw mango to guava and blackcurrant and cucumber – cheers to that. The Chinatown of Kolkata is Tangra, which provides an apt influence for the interior of Fatt Pundit. Exposed concrete walls complete with accents of red and blue reflect the street signs and painted murals found on the ancient walls of this historic area, complimented with sporadic paintings of the Fatt Pundit himself. With seating for up to 60 guests for lunch and dinner, The Fatt Pundit will give Londoners a taste of a rich culinary heritage that is far from forgotten; as far as Fatt Pundit’s concerned this is just the beginning!

Founded in early 19 th century as a part of Al Bidda, the city became the capital of Qatar in 1971. The city has grown multifold over the years and has emerged as one of the major commercial and financial centres in the Middle East. Winner of Asian Curry Awards ‘Best Newcomer’ Restaurant Announces Meat-Free Mondays

Winner of Asian Curry Awards ‘Best Newcomer’ Restaurant Announces Meat-Free Mondays Winner of Asian Curry Awards ‘Best Newcomer’ Restaurant Announces Meat-Free Mondays
“We’ve always had a significant number of vegetarian and vegan customers, but after Christmas probably as many as one in four parties had at least one member who requested vegan meals,” said owner Ralph Sousa. “Some wanted healthier options after the indulgencies of the festive period – others wanted to reduce their impact of the environment, by cutting out animal products, at least for a month.”
Speaking to customers, Saffron Summer learned that although most of these customers planned to revert to an omnivorous lifestyle, many intended to permanently reduce their meat and dairy intake. Hence to introduction of the new menu, which features vegan options such as Baingan Mirch Ka Saalan – which is aubergine steaks with aubergine chutney and stuffed romero peppers; plus vegetarian specials including Shahi Methi Paneer and Subz Panchmel – five types of seasonal fresh vegetables in a special sauce which is also low in calories.
During National Vegetarian Week (13th to 19th May), Saffron Summer will be serving a special three course vegetarian menu, with optional vegan drinks pairings, for around £24.95 a head.
For each one served Saffron Summer will donate £1 to the Curry for Change charity, which works to alleviate hunger in rural Africa and India. “India is home to perhaps half a billion vegetarians – more than anywhere else in the world, so it has developed the best vegetarian cuisine,” said Saffron Summer Executive Chef, Awanish Roy, who previously worked at London’s renowned Cinnamon Club.
Being ranked No. 1 Indian Restaurant on the TripAdvisor reviews website* and having won Best Newcomer at the Asian Curry Awards last, when its chairman of judges Pat Chapman, Editor of the Cobra Good Curry Guide said of Saffron Summer, “You won’t find better Indian food anywhere,” Chef Roy has his eye on the Fine Dining category at this year’s awards which were launched at the House of Lords o 4th March. Spice lovers can vote for Summer Saffron, or any of their favourite restaurants via www.asiancurryawards.co.uk/vote-now .
Winners will be announced at a glittering gala dinner in London in November.
