Rising impacts of globalization has made it possible for anyone to get cuisines from the opposite part of the world. The food & beverage sector is getting primarily dominated by four inter-connected aspects; increasing disposable income, growth in logistical support, better technological support, and packaging backups. It is the hike in disposable income and intercultural exchanges that have created enough scope for the different types of cuisines to traverse borders. At present, globally, southeastern, Indian, middle-eastern cuisines are gaining popularity for their rich taste and exotic flavors. However, chains like McDonald’s, KFC, Papa John’s, Burger King, Starbucks, and others are also bringing in a plethora of tastes to different countries. These food chains are mostly western in origin but their flavors vary from country to country as they also give priority to regional tastes. That’s why, often, a blend of two different tastes are happening. Earlier, it was mainly the colonial impact that used to carry delicacies from one part of the world to the other. For instance, cakes became famous in the oriental part of the world due to European invasion. Use of tea became popular in the occident due to similar reasons. Now travelling has evolved and people are often pretty open about a gastronomic tour.

Does the restaurant you ordered from actually exist? Inside the virtual, delivery-only spots on Uber Eats | GuideLive
Don’t be alarmed, but the restaurant you just ordered delivery from might not actually exist. Not in the physical realm, at least. That’s because D-FW is now home to dozens of delivery-only concepts that, while very real on your Uber Eats app, have no brick and mortar locations of their own.
Since Uber Eats first began experimenting with virtual restaurants in 2017, more than 2,500 such businesses have launched on the app around the world. About 1,000 of those reside in the United States, with high concentrations in cities like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.
According to Travis Considine, communications manager for Uber Texas, the company leverages its technology and data insights to identify selection gaps in the market. Basically, they find an intersection where supply is lagging behind demand.
“We work with our restaurant partners to fill those gaps by helping them spin up new, delivery-only menus out of their existing kitchens,” he says. One of those partners is Navin Hariprasad, the owner of Spice in the City , the Indian Tex-Mex fusion restaurant downtown, and the recently-opened Hot off the Press, a sandwich shop at Main Street Garden. He says that last year, Uber called him about launching a virtual concept, and told him that popular searches in the area included words like “vegan,” “vegetarian” and “healthy.”
As a trained dietitian and recent convert to vegetarianism, Hariprasad jumped at the opportunity. Within two weeks, he’d created a menu, dubbed his new restaurant Lucky Cat Vegan, and opened for business in January.
“We prepare all of our food at Spice in the City,” Hariprasad says. “Luckily, we are already vegetarian/vegan conscious and our employees are trained on cultural sensitivity. We use a vegan-only fryer and separate skillets for our vegan options to avoid cross contamination.” Spicy orange chili cauliflower with basmati rice is served by Lucky Cat Vegan, exclusive to Uber Eats, located inside Spice in the City in Dallas. Other examples include Dugg Burger in Casa Linda. The 4-year-old restaurant joined the virtual fray last year with Chicken Sandwich Project, which delivers a simple menu of grilled and fried chicken sandwiches, milkshakes, and one salad for good measure. They’ll even bring you a Twinkie.
Wava Halal Grill on Greenville Avenue has multiple virtual concepts operating out of its kitchen, including the self-explanatory Burger World, Smoothie World and Wava Mediterranean Eats. Sakhuu Thai Cuisine in East Dallas expanded their footprint by launching Ms. Bamboo Chinese Cuisine. And Ai Sushi Sake Grill on Cedar Springs is now delivering Korean food via their virtual restaurant, the Kimchii. For owner Steve Chang, it was a natural jump.
“The food is prepared and handled by the same staff,” Chang. says “They are trained in multiple cuisines and familiar with Asian cooking. The cornerstone of our Korean food is our family recipes handed down and adapted with each individual until we have what’s now on the menu at the Kimchii.”
Chang mentions that, so far, reception has been positive. The Kimchii customers include regulars who were already familiar with Ai Sushi and newcomers who discovered the sibling restaurant online. “We’re one of the few restaurants that serve delicious Korean food in the center of Dallas vs. the typical areas around Royal Lane, Carrollton and Plano,” he says. Korean restaurant K’s House brings bold flavors to Trinity Groves
That ability to fill a gap in the market is also fueling the success of Hariprasad’s virtual vegan restaurant. “There is a very high demand for vegan options based on the fact that there is a lack of variety, and people are wanting to eat more plant-based foods,” he says. He notes that even fast food restaurants are beginning to pick up on this trend, offering options for vegans and vegetarians that extend beyond just salads and starches.
At Lucky Cat Vegan, that means burgers and meatballs made with plant-based “meat” from Impossible Foods and a riff on buffalo chicken made from cauliflower.
“I crave a burger, meatballs and fried chicken, so to create similar options like that with health still in mind, as a dietitian, is a winner,” he says. Various dishes served by Lucky Cat Vegan, exclusive to Uber Eats, located inside Spice in the City in Dallas. Jason Janik/Special Contributor
Throw in the lower operating costs associated with running a virtual restaurant, and it’s easy to see why the concept has proven popular. We brake for barbacoa (and Peking duck): Ana’s and First Chinese are two of D-FW’s great BYOB restaurants
“Normally, when a restaurant wants to open up a new revenue stream, they need to invest in a new brick and mortar location,” Considine says, noting that doing so requires significant time, capital and risk. With virtual restaurants, chefs and owners can experiment with new concepts using the kitchen and staff they already have.
Hariprasad agrees. “Online restaurants are sustainable because you can create a new concept and revenue stream without the additional overhead of a brick and mortar,” he says. He also mentions that being visible on delivery platforms is a good marketing opportunity for his businesses.
It seems to be working, even resulting in foot traffic from customers searching for his non-existent restaurant. Hariprasad says that so many people showed up at Spice in the City looking for Lucky Cat, that he eventually began allowing guests to place to-go and dine-in orders for the latter.
“This has not only provided a great atmosphere for vegans and vegetarians to dine in, but it has really allowed us to cross promote our multiple concepts,” he says. Diabetes is a condition where the levels of blood sugar in the body are persistently high for either of two reasons – the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin or the body is not able to process the insulin effectively. These are known as Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, respectively. Some common symptoms of diabetes include increased thirst, frequent urination, hunger, fatigue etc. Diabetics need to be very careful about what they eat to as to avoid any sudden spikes in levels of blood sugar. This is why diabetics are advised to shun processed and junk foods and instead include more foods and drinks that may regulate release of glucose or sugar in the blood and whole grains are one such category of foods that are considered healthy for diabetics.
Whole grains are rich in fibre and beneficial micro-nutrients like vitamins and minerals and hence are ideal for a diabetes diet. A number of whole grains are already used abundantly in Indian kitchens and a popular whole grain that Indians have always used is bajra , which belongs to the family of millets. Technically speaking, millets are grass, but they have been consumed as food grains in certain parts of the world and have come to be known as such in culinary cultures. In India, bajra has been a prized part of regional cuisines since pre-historic times, on account of being energising nutritional powerhouse.

Due to the presence of good quality complex carbohydrates in it, bajra is ideal for weight management and for regulating blood sugar levels. Consuming bajra may help steadily supply your body with energy and it is also gluten-free. The fibre-rich food grain contains 12 grams of protein per 100 grams of portion, as well as 42 grams of calcium (as per data by the United States of Agriculture). According to consulting nutritionist Dr. Rupali Datta, bajra is also a great pre-biotic, due to the presence of insoluble fibre, which acts as nutrition for the beneficial bacteria in your gut. Dr. Datta says that bajra may have a positive effect on diabetes due to the presence of slowly digestible starch, which is converted to glucose slowly. Moreover, bajra is rich in magnesium, which has also been linked with lowered risk of diabetes. Bajra for diabetes: The whole grain contains insoluble fibre and magnesium

These were injected into the sea by Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Company. This was done by mistakes and violations of the law during a test operation of the steel plant in Vung Ang (Ha Tinh province). In consequence it led to the mass death of fish. ” Formosa admits blame for environmental disaster in Vietnam “
The Vietnamese government has made public the results of investigations on the environmental disaster at a press conference at the end of June 2016.
The Vietnamese Deputy Minister for Resources and Environment, Mr. However, it was emphasized that they wanted to solve the case rest. Cause of the fish deaths was probably rather an algal bloom and the initiation of toxic chemicals by the residents of the region. What do they want out there? The elderly remain in their homes. The youth is drawn away, to Saigon or Hanoi for finding work and jobs. Only a few large boats venture out of the 200 miles zone of the coast line to where there still fish is available. The air stinks of rotting fish and the boats of fishermen not anymore drive to the sea in the morning. Therefore no one has to wait for them and their catches in the afternoon. But this is dangerous because the fishing boats are there attacked by Chinese ships. One of these boats with a crew of four did not returned from such a journey. Dried fish, sea salt and our beloved fish sauce for seasoning of food – all has become a scarce commodity throughout the country. Restaurants in the region do not offer fish anymore and therefore the catch are usually fed to the chickens or transported to distant regions. “Since last April and the beginning of large fish mortality is nothing more so as it once was. But even when these boats return with their catch, it is almost impossible to sell the fish. No one knows when it will go up again or improve.” Even the fishermen are afraid to eat their own fish.

Also, one cannot leave out the breadth of opportunities available once they are in Vietnam to travel to the exotic destinations of the region including Myanmar, Laos, Thailand and Cambodia.Next to one of the boats we find Mr. After a brief welcome and a while of silence, we are asking why we have seen in the city and on the beach a very few inhabitants only and Mr Quang Thanh begins to explain: Quang Thanh who is fisherman in the third generation. His face is weathered by sun, wind and salty sea water as well as the color of his boat. His dim eyes from which every shine got lost, looks sad and thoughtful out to the sea.

French restaurant Mirazur run by Argentine chef Mauro Colagreco was Tuesday crowned the world’s best restaurant at an awards ceremony put on by British trade magazine Restaurant.
In second spot in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants was Noma in Copenhagen, and in third was Asador Etxebarri in Spain.
An ecstatic Colagreco called his team to the stage and exclaimed “Wow, wow, wow” after his victory was announced.
“Thank you my team. You deserve it, all these years. Thank you friends for supporting us during these last 13 years,” he said at the awards ceremony in Singapore.
In fourth place was Bangkok’s Gaggan, whose owner-chef Gaggan Anand has won praise for his modern spin on his native Indian cuisine.
Restaurant magazine, owned by William Reed Media, launched the awards in 2002 and they are now as coveted by restaurants as Michelin stars, although the methodology used to select the best restaurants has faced criticism, especially from several French chefs who say it remains unclear.
There are no criteria for putting a restaurant on the list, which is based on an anonymous poll of more than 1,000 chefs, restaurant owners, food critics and other industry insiders from around the world.

On the Antarctic Ice With Anthony Bourdain
On the Antarctic Ice With Anthony Bourdain ‘He didnt come for the food. He wanted to know about our climate research.
In February 2017, I was nearing the end of four months at a remote outpost in Antarctica, gathering data for my Ph.D. thesis. Donald Trump had been inaugurated a month earlier and already the words climate change had been purged from the White House website. The mood among the scientists at the bottom of the world had changed drastically. We had been the forefront of studying climate change and suddenly we were being shunted aside.
Around the last week of our expedition to Lake Hoare, a barren, Martian-like region of the continent, the National Science Foundation, our sponsor, told us that Anthony Bourdain would be arriving to interview us at our field camp for his CNN show Parts Unknown. A lot of us knew Mr. Bourdain as a chef and foodie, but Antarctica isnt known for its local cuisine. There are no Michelin-starred restaurants there (or any restaurants for that matter) and so amid the excitement, there was also a bit of confusion about his visit.
After a long, painfully cold day of sampling glacial meltwater to analyze its biological and chemical components, we all huddled around a laptop to prep for his arrival. We watched a clip of his earlier show No Reservations in which Mr. Bourdain eats a still-beating cobra heart.
I hope he doesnt want to try the penguin, said Rae Spain, the field camp manager. She is known across the continent for her ability to take frozen chicken from 2012 and canned vegetables from an undetermined year and make it into a five-star Indian dish. She would be in charge of the food we would share with Mr. Bourdain and his crew.’>>>
Best of Canada: 7 Canuck Food Facts
Our home and native land. A natural wonder, a diverse people, a place where we can stand together for thee. And then there’s the food.
Yes, Canada does have a unique foodie culture all its own from Maple syrup to poutine and many adopted foreign cuisines that now have their place in our collective foodie psyche. We asked those in the know for this roundup, a field guide of sorts to seven Canadian food-facts to get you feeling true, north, strong and where to go to be hungry-free.
1. Toronto is the most diverse city in the world.
Over half of Toronto’s population is made up of residents born outside of Canada. The city is host to 230 diverse ethnic groups, speaking more than 140 languages. That beauty of diversity shows through in our food, too. When Seigo Nakamura, the mastermind behind Miku Toronto , and this gorgeous dish, above, took over his father’s struggling sushi restaurant in Japan, he vowed to learn as much as he could about the restaurant industry. He’s now a Canadian success story.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Miku’s Aburi Sushi, which translates to “flame-seared”; a flame is applied onto a piece of Japanese bamboo charcoal over the seafood to create a new texture and enhance the sushi’s natural flavour.
https://mikutoronto.com 2. When the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich was first introduced 100 years ago it only cost 5 cents!
The Montreal smoked meat sandwich features corned beef and pastrami, served on artisan or rye bread smothered in mustard. It’s no surprise this smokey and savoury delicacy has been popular since 1908. Curb your hunger and make a classic Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Quebec-based bakery Boulart has created their own version, above, and put together a step-by-step recipe to make sure you enjoy every bite.
3. Winnipeg is one of the top- five coldest cities in the world.
Often referred to as “Winterpeg,” temperatures routinely dip below -21 C in the winter months. The two coldest nights the city has experienced, felt like -45 C on February 18, 1966, and -47.8 C on December 24, 1879.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Venture to The Forks , Winnipeg’s number one tourist destination, above. Located where the Red River and the Assiniboine River meet, The Forks has been a historic meeting place for Indigenous groups for more than 6,000 years. Today, The Forks still holds a rich cultural history as Winnipeg’s most diverse culinary destination, offering a range of eclectic dining choices for any palate or pocketbook. And, with stellar waterfront views, it’s the perfect (and patriotic!) destination to visit, winter or summer.
4. Canadians purchase more ice cream in winter than summer!
Canadians often have mixed feelings toward Mother Nature. While there are beautiful snowy moments in our winters, we know how long and dark the season can feel. That’s why we love to soak up the sun, and enjoy everything summer has to offer, including ice cream. What’s surprising, however, is that Canadians actually purchase more ice cream during the winter months!
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Montreal-based, CoolWay ice cream, above, allows you to enjoy your favourite flavours year round without the guilt – each tub contains 28g of protein and ranges from 280 to 360 calories.
5. Canada is home to 42 national parks, 167 national historic sites, and four marine conservation areas.
With so much natural beauty around us, it’s no wonder Canadians are camping and cottaging all summer (and winter) long. Whether you’re into backcountry portaging or lounging on the dock, it’s undeniable that food is often the centre of the outdoor experience.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Outdoor grilling and barbecuing are a breeze with All-Clad Canada’s new outdoor cookware, above.
Marie Antioinette cake ice cream, with maple syrup, by Nadege Patisserie 6. Canada produces 71% of the world’s maple syrup with 91% produced in Quebec.
In 2017 Canada produced more than 12.5 million gallons of maple syrup. That’s enough to fill 19 Olympic swimming pools! Maple syrup is one of the country’s main resources, and it’s a national treasure.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Toronto’s NADÈGE includes maple syrup in a number of their desserts, including one of their most popular items, the Marie Antoinette Cake . Featuring fresh vanilla panna cotta and a light maple syrup mousse topped with classic macaron biscuits, the beloved cake is also the inspiration for one of NADÈGE’s 16 ice cream flavours, above. The new NADÈGE ice cream shop is located at the patisserie’s flagship, 780 Queen St. West , beside Trinity Bellwoods Park.
7. Though poutine was invented in the 1950s, the word wasn’t added to the Merriam-Webster dictionary until 2014.
Although Anglophones often pronounce it “pou-teen,” the proper Québécois pronunciation is “pou-tin,” with less emphasis on the final syllable.
The Made-in-Canada Twist: Try the Butter Chicken Poutine, above, at My Roti Place in Toronto, made with crispy fries, flavourful butter chicken and gooey cheese. At 406 Queen St. W , My Roti Place features a variety of dishes with simple and fresh ingredients and the quintessential spice palette of traditional Indian curries and sauces.
What to eat and drink during Manchester International Festival
Deanna Thomas 25 June 2019 Buried breweries, Catalan pizzas and David Lynch ice cream – it’s an exciting street food line up If you’ve walked past Albert Square recently, you can’t have failed to notice that preparations are well under way to transform it into Festival Square, a hub for this year’s Manchester International Festival (MIF.)
From Friday 5 to Sunday 21 July, Festival Square will be a free to visit, open to all food hotspot, open from noon until late each day.
Festival Square’s eclectic 2019 street food line up promises an exceptional and affordable food and drink experience for visitors to this year’s MIF. There will be guest appearances from popular restaurants serving street food versions of their dishes, as well as old favourites and exciting one-off collaborations.
Festival Square promises to be an extraordinary food destination, as well as the place to check out the exciting free programme of live music, DJs, special events and to pick up Festival info and tickets.
A series of special MIF supper clubs with some of the region’s top chefs including Mark Birchall from Moor Hall, Michael Wignall from The Angel at Hetton and Lisa Goodwin-Allen, executive Chef at Northcote, Langho, have all sold out. So have a series of ‘lazy lunches’ hosted by Paul Heathcote and guest chefs. But this year, a range of independent street food brands will be based inside ‘The Barn’, a beautiful covered, and unique temporary space with rustic wooden beams that will act as Festival Square’s own bespoke food hall. Nicholas Henninger of OfCA and Paloma Gormley of Practice Architecture have specially designed it – the same team behind Festival Square’s new look in 2019.
Here’s a look at who’ll be there. What to drink
Festival Square’s official beer supplier, local family brewery JW Lees , will be serving beers, wines, Champagnes, soft drinks and a limited-edition American Apricot Pale Ale from The Boilerhouse, at JW Lees MIF Bar throughout the Festival.

The Manchester cholera epidemic of the 1830s is the unlikely inspiration for the first UK project by Japanese art collective Chim↑Pom.
